Kariem Hoosain , former CEO of IRBA, joins Mazars

On 1 January 2009, Kariem Hoosain, former CEO of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA), joined Mazars as a Partner in the Public Interest Entity (PIE) division.

Kariem’s career has come full circle as his first position was with Mazars where he completed his articles then spent a further four years as a senior manager.

He left Mazars to serve in the public sector, joining the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), setting up its infrastructure and financial management functions. He then joined the Office of the Auditor General in Pretoria as a senior manager involved in auditing the State Oil Companies and Intelligence Services, among a number of other strategic projects. He became a member of the OAG executive committee in 2003, and took on responsibility for all nine provincial business units.

He left the OAG to join IRBA in 2005, where he served as CEO for three years. He currently serves on the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), the International Accounting Education Standards Board and is a council member of Durban University of Technology and the Council for Medical Schemes.
